APPLETON, Wis. - Wausaukee's second appearance in the WIAA state baseball finals takes place Wednesday at Fox Cities Stadium.
The Rangers (15-6), who lost in the 1999 Division 3 state semifinals, will meet Greenwood (14-3) at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the first of two Division 4 semifinals Wednesday. The other semifinal pits Potosi (18-7) and Lake Country Lutheran (23-4).
"This team just wants to win and motivates everyone to be better," Wausaukee coach Paul Moser told the Marinette EagleHerald. "I might be a little biased saying this, but I don't think there is a team out there that works harder than this group."
Beau DeLaet is one of Wausaukee’s top pitchers and leads the team in hitting.
Wausaukee advanced to this year's semifinals with a 10-0, five-inning shutout over Rib Lake in the Tigerton Sectional. The Rangers placed third in the Marinette & Oconto Conference.
Wausaukee has not allowed a run and made just one error in four tournament games. The Rangers have also collected 34 runs.
"That's what we hang our hats on, is our hitting," Moser said prior to dumping Three Lakes and Rib Lake in the sectional. "Recently our defense has been off the charts. We're hitting right now and our defense has been outstanding."
The 66th annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Spring Baseball State Tournament will be held Tuesday through Thursday. Ticket prices for the tourney are $8 per session and $14 for an all-day admission ticket.
