Joy Paternoster

KINGSFORD - Joy Ann Paternoster, 86, of Kingsford, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.

She was born on March 2, 1927, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Carl and Irene (Young) Holtz. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Joy married her high school sweetheart Thomas A. Paternoster on Aug. 18, 1947, at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Tom preceded her in death on March 1, 1994.

Joy worked as a telephone operator and later at the Shoe Bazaar in downtown Iron Mountain. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and sewing. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent at the family camp. She and her husband Tom loved to be at the camp. They enjoyed nature and the outdoors, passing on her skills of trout fishing, partridge hunting, and deer tracking to her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Dave (Sue) Paternoster of Kingsford and Jim Paternoster of Kalamazoo, Mich.; one daughter, Karen (Pat) Ellis of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Mike (Sarah) Paternoster of Marquette, Dan (Jaime) Paternoster of Kingsford, Tim (Sarah) Ellis of DeForest, Wis., Emily Joy Ellis of Kingsford, Kevin Paternoster of Kalamazoo and Kelsey Paternoster of Kalamazoo; three great-grandchildren, Halle, Samantha, and Addison.

She also leaves her special friends Evelyn Thunell and Ruth Clark; and her special friend and neighbor Deloris Hill.

Joy was preceded in death by two brothers, Lt. Col. Jack Holtz and Jim Holtz; an infant sister, Janet Mae Holtz; and a daughter-in-law, Annice O'Brien Paternoster.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Quinnesec Cemetery. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Maryhill Manor.

Joy's family would like to thank her extended family and the Maryhill Manor staff for the love, compassion and care they gave her.
