MARQUETTE - The U.P. Football All-Star Game has finalized the schedule and teams for this year's event.
The game will be played at the Superior Dome, on Saturday, June 29. Game time is set for 2 p.m. (Central time), with the doors opening at 1 p.m.
Many activities are planned throughout the week for the players and coaches.
On Monday, June 24, players and coaches check in at Meyland Hall on the Northern Michigan University campus. A food drive for the Beacon House food pantry will also be conducted at the check-in location.
Players Skills Challenge will take place Wednesday afternoon. The players will compete for the titles of Fastest Man, Strongest Man, Receiver, Quarterback Challenge, Kicking and Punting Challenges.
Players and coaches will be visiting Bay Cliff Health Camp on Thursday. Bay Cliff is a summer camp for children with physical disabilities and the all-star players will spend time with the campers.
Ishpeming head coach Jeff Olson will serve as guest speaker for the all-star banquet Friday.
"Coach Olson had to deal with the personal tragedy of losing his son, Daniel, then lead his team and community to a MHSAA Division 7 state championship that same year," said a U.P. Football All-Star Game spokesman. "He will have a great message for everyone in attendance.
North Dickinson's Joe Reddinger will lead the West while Olson will guide the East for the Saturday, June 29, test at the Superior Dome. Kick-off is 2 p.m. (Central time).
Jerry Reddinger along with Mike Christian (North Dickinson), Jeff Harry (Kingsford), Troy Reuter (Menominee, Kingsford grad) and Chad Brandt (Stephenson) will assist the head coach.
Fourteen area standouts from seven schools will also participate - Derek Aberly, Forest Park; Cody Berg, Dominic Christian, Dylan Dario and Kenny Pekarek, North Dickinson; Paul Brooks, Taylor Huotari, Tony Ward and Matt Willman, Iron Mountain; Cody DesJardins, West Iron County; John Grayvold Jr., Norway; Dyllion Hanchek, North Central, and Reed Larson, Sean Ryan and Aidan Wienke, Kingsford.
Three youth football games will be played at 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 11 a,m. prior to the main event on Saturday. Admission is free to all who want to attend, and the players will get in free to the All-Star Game if they wear their jersey.
"These youth games will replace the underclassmen combine held in previous years, and represents the only major change in the itinerary from last year," spokesman said.
U.P. Football All-Star Game will be donating proceeds to U.P. charities Beacon House and U.P. Sports Hall of Fame, as well as two individual U.P. high schools to be determined.
A lottery drawing will be performed to select the two schools, and donations will be made directly to the football program of those schools chosen. Each year, new schools will be chosen until all U.P. schools have received benefits from the game.
Several other schools will also receive donations in the form of All-Star Game equipment, including practice jerseys and footballs.
