Elks squeaks past Dairy Queen 8-7

IRON MOUNTAIN - Foster Wonders slugged a home run and single as Elks edged Dairy Queen 8-7 in Little League major baseball.

Michael Savarin also stroked two hits and Tony Feira, Jurgen Kleiman, Josh Pfister and Hunter Fortner singled.

Kleiman (five strikeouts) and Dan Hellman pitched for Elks. Connor Edwards collected three hits while Nate Rutter and Luke Terrian had two apiece.

...In more major Little League action, Econo Foods blanked Aurora in four innings Wednesday night. Trevor Povolo collected two hits, Collin Erickson had two hits with four RBIs, and Ethan Batti added two hits two RBIs in Econo's 10-run attack. Cole Galeazzi struck out seven batters to pick up the win.

...In a senior league doubleheader, Hermansville North County defeated Kingsford Beaulier Buildings 16-6 and 9-1.

Caleb Martin and Allen Kleiman combined for seven strikeouts in the first game. Kleiman hit a double, while Martin connected for a double and a single. Other North County hitters were Bob Kleiman with two singles, Seth Polfus with two doubles, Lucas Dombrowski with a triple and single, and Brandon Schultz, Zach Estrada, Jaycee Faccio and Jason Kirschner with singles. For Beaulier, Joe Linn and Brady Hicks combined for four strikeouts. Linn hit a single.

Allen Kleiman no-hit Beaulier in the second game, fanning 10 batters. Allen Kleiman and Bob Kleiman both hit doubles. Polfus hit a single and a double. Dombrowski added a single, and John Edwardson hit two singles. Hicks, Kyle Hennes and Jackson Ferree pitched for Beaulier.

...In more senior action, Kingsford's Allen Painting and Decorating took both games of a doubleheader against Hermansville, winning 3-2 and 7-4. APD's Jacob Mongrain led the hitting with two singles. Danny Harrington and Ethan Metras each doubled, and Adam Zabo singled. Alex Wiitanen, Mike Holmberg and Harrington combined to allow four hits while striking out three. Hermansville hitters Bobby Kleiman, Seth Polfus, Caleb Martin and John Edwardson each singled. Polfus took the loss, allowing five hits and striking out four.

In game two, APD's Gage Yaggie, Bubba Johnson and Alex Blaskowski collected two hits each. Harrington doubled and Justin Lavarnway and Alex Wiitanen singled. Zabo, Blaskowski, Harrington and Wiitanen pitched, surrendering six hits and striking out five. Hermansville hitters Bobby Kleiman, Allen Kleiman, Caleb Martin, Brandon Schultz, Lucas Dombrowski and Jason Kirschner each provided hits. John Edwardson gave up nine hits and struck out seven.

...In junior baseball, Back In Motion brushed off Subway 8-5. Austin Vanpembrook went four strong innings and struck out eight batters. Darren Wood finished the last three. At the plate, Wyatt Caylor had two hits, while Steven Forstrom, Owen Petshar, Jordan Monosso and Vanpembrook all chipped in with hits. Guy Barrows and Josh Tucker handled the pitching chores for Subway.

...Grede knocked off North Dickinson 7-1 in another junior game. Marcus Maraccini and Aden Johnston shared the mound for Grede providing six strikeouts and allowing three walks. Andrew Barker had a double for Grede. Alex St.Aubin, John Fayas, and Johnston all added singles.

...In major softball, Norway Big Ten Bar and Grill defeated Best Heating. Getting hits for Best Heating were Mary Slagle, Payton Castelaz, Brooke Giancola and Jaclyn Bal. Big 10 batters getting hits were Hailey Howorth, Allison Sheski and Lilly Van Loon with singles. Lexi Miller hit a double and Danae Anderson added a single and triple. Cassidy Menard was the winning pitcher, logging nine strikeouts and adding two singles to the effort.

... In junior/senior softball, Kingsford's Antonios improved to 9-1 after defeating Felch 14-3.Mariah Clement struck out six and allowed five hits in the win. Molly Wahoviak, Cierra Dober, Clement, Abby Meneguzzo, Sierra Fortner, Abby Tomasoski, Sydney Wickman and Sabrina Wickman all singled for Antonios. Lexi Steele struck out six for Felch. Steele, Sara Borvan, Cassie Gustafson all had hits.
