Elizabeth Neldberg

IRON MOUNTAIN - Elizabeth "Betty" Neldberg, 90, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 5, 1923, in Phillips, Wis., daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Seitz) Larson.

Betty graduated from Quinnesec High School in 1941 and was a lifelong resident of the area. She married Ronald Neldberg in 1947, and they ran Neldberg's grocery store on Stephenson Avenue for many years. Ronald died at an early age in 1961, leaving Betty to raise her two children. She then went to work at the Commercial National Bank and managed the Kingsford branch until her retirement in 1988.

Betty had many friends and loved spending time with her family. For many years, Betty would spend three months every winter with her daughter and her grandchildren in southern California. She embraced everyone around her and made them feel special.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Linda (Vic) Bengard of Moreno Valley, Calif.; one son, Ron Neldberg of Piedmont, Calif.; three grandchildren, Krista, Victoria and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Jillian and Travis; one brother-in-law, Robert (Monica) Neldberg of Marquette; and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Cindy Larson, who was a great caretaker for Betty.

Betty is also survived by her special friend, Ray Poisson, who she spent the last three years with.

Betty was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Lafaive; and two brothers, Robert Larson and Harlan Larson.

Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will follow Friday at 11 a.m. in the church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
