Iron River gas leak addressed

June 26, 2013
The Daily News

IRON RIVER - A gas leak in Iron River on Wednesday morning prompted officials to re-route traffic and evacuate some homes for a short time.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. at the corner of M-189 and Ross Street.

West Iron County Fire Chief Al Perlongo said that an excavator hit a gas line while doing road work.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently reconstructing M-189 from Genesee Street to Hiawatha Road.

Perlongo said that although officials implemented a detour and some evacuations as precautions, the incident was quickly brought under control.

No injuries were reported, he added.
