IRON RIVER - Chester R. Turcotte, 94, of Iron River, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
He was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Pentoga, Mich., son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Belongie) Turcotte. He attended the Stambaugh Schools and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was employed by Pickards-Mather Mining Company at the Buck Mine for many years prior to it's closure in 1961.
Chester married the former Margaret Kocinski on May 17, 1941, in Crystal Falls. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2009. Margaret preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2009.
Chester was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the Pipe Fitters and Welders Local 414 of Marquette, and a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Turcotte, and sisters, Josephine Turcotte, Irene Goodhall, and Jeanette Miresse.
Chester is survived by his son, Randy (Catherine) Turcotte of Tempe, Ariz., daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Karney of Anacortes, Wash., and granddaughter, Nicole Turcotte.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, pastor to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord military rites at the graveside.
