Vernon E. Weinfurter

KINGSFORD - Vernon E. Weinfurter, 78, of East Kingsford, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 4, 1934, in Kingsford, son of the late Edward and Viola (Beaulier) Weinfurter.

He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid, serving in the Mediterranean Sea and in Philadelphia. Vernon was a supervisor at Grede Foundry for 29 years, retiring in 1993.

On Aug. 30, 1958, he married Shirley Walton at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. The couple enjoyed traveling together and spending their winters in Mesa, Ariz.

Vernon enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing shuffleboard. He was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four children, Mark Weinfurter of East Kingsford, Mike (Diane) Weinfurter of Kingsford, Matt Weinfurter of Homestead and Marsha (Craig) Nord of Quinnesec; five brothers, Edwin (Donna) Weinfurter of Aurora, Wis., John "Ted" (Elizabeth) Weinfurter of Breitung Township, Robert (Nora) Weinfurter of Kingsford, Howard DeWayne (Pam) Weinfurter of Iron Mountain and Ronald (Joyce) Weinfurter of Breitung Township; one sister, Joyce Quick of Milwaukee; one brother-in-law, Bernard Mainville of Kingsford; seven grandchildren, Jamie Lynn (Matt) Lockhart, Jennifer Stankevich-Millron, Crystal Stankevich, Jesse Weinfurter, Katie Lynn Weinfurter, Laura Nord and Logan Nord; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Jake Lockhart; and many nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Nord; one sister, Dorothy Mainville; a special uncle, Killian Weinfurter; two nephews, Randy Weinfurter and Charles VerBurst; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernard and Rose Walton.

Private family services will be held.
