Major softball district opens

Gladstone beats Norway; Kingsford, IM play tonight

KINGSFORD - Gladstone plated eight runs in the fourth inning and defeated Norway 16-5 to open a Little League major (age 12-under) softball district tournament Monday at Lodal Park.

Sydney Herioux (triple, single, RBI walk), Mckenzie Monkevich (double, single) and Britney Schwartz (double) led Gladstone at the plate.

Pitcher Amber Lenards permitted two Norway singles in the game - Ada Vanholla in the first and Ali Sheski in the second.

Tournament continues tonight with Escanaba meeting Kingsford at 5 p.m. and Gladstone facing Iron Mountain at 7 p.m. at Lodal Park.

Norway will face either Kingsford or Escanaba in an elimination game Wednesday at 5 p.m.
