Bass Festival this weekend

CRYSTAL FALLS - Plenty of activities are planned for this year's Bass Festival, which will take place this weekend in Crystal Falls.

Participants in the 2012 Bass Festival canoe race paddle the Paint River. This year’s canoe race is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The 49th annual event, sponsored by the Crystal Falls Lions Club, will kick off on Thursday with bingo at Nylund's. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Concessions will be available.

On Friday, there will be a boxing invitational at Nylund's. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the competition starts at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available.

Activities on Saturday will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. This year's theme is "Fun in the Sun."

Canoe races on the Paint River start at 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon events at Runkle Lake Park include caricature drawings, a chicken barbecue at noon, a volleyball tournament at noon, music from noon to 2 p.m., music by The Real Deal featuring Paul Sundquist from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the "Wop vs. Swede" softball game at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday events will start with a pancake breakfast at the VFW Hall from 7 a.m. to noon.

Registration for the annual Run and Walk Your Bass Off 5K and 10K races will take place at 8 a.m. at Runkle Lake Park. Races start at 9 a.m.

Afternoon events at Runkle Lake Park include caricature drawings, a community picnic at noon, a volleyball tournament at noon, acceptance of final fishing contest entries at noon, a baby contest for children age three and under at noon, a horseshoe tournament at noon, kids' games and races at 2 p.m., music by Fireside featuring Paul Sundquist from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the fishing contest award ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
