The sons of Wakefield High School graduates connected on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the U.P. Football All-Star Game at the Superior Dome.

Norway's John Grayvold Jr. grabbed a third-quarter scoring pitch from Gogebic Miners quarterback Eric Lane for the West's first points of the game.

"It wasn't that good of a throw, but John Grayvold is a really good receiver," Eric Lane, son of Mick, told The Daily Globe. "He just kept his eye on it and he pulled it out.

"It's nice to finally play with him." ...

From comedy writer Alex Kaseberg, on the NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks: "They would take the Cup to a Chicago Cubs game, but then they would have to explain what a championship is." ...

From dog lover and former game show host Bob Barker, in the Saturday Evening Post: "If you have an animal friend, you learn what loyalty means. They know how to love. They know how to be devoted. They know how to make you happy." ...

Former Manitowoc basketball star Bob Sullivan, who made news this week by shooting and killing his brother, once took home the outstanding player award at Hermansville's Gold Medal Classic.

Sullivan, 65, starred at Manitowoc (Wis.) Lincoln High School and started for three seasons at the University of Michigan.

Denny Grall, former dean of the U.P. sports writers, calls Sullivan the "best high school player I have ever seen." ...

Thank you to all who made this Fourth of July possible ...
