KINGSFORD - Jordan Groeneveld Memorial Scholarship assisted another group of American Legion baseball players on Sunday.
Conor Berndt, Michael McCole, Cole Michaud, Devon Oslund and Aidan Wienke accepted $500 scholarships and plaques prior to a doubleheader with Ishpeming at Lodal Park's Gary Spigarelli Field.
Jordan Groeneveld Memorial Scholarship, in its 11th year, has issued 49 scholarships to baseball athletes.
"Due to the tremendous community support we have been able to keep giving scholarships to the deserving athletes," said Bryan Bray, a close friend of Jordan Groeneveld and a member of the scholarship committee.
To be eligible for this scholarship, one must be a recent high school graduate continuing his education at a college or technical school.
"The rules of the scholarship are in place because that is what Jordan Groeneveld stood for," said Bray, noting community service and no use of tobacco, alcohol or drugs. "He had very strong leadership and could rally anyone up.
"He did not always start in the sports he played but again he could get you going and lead us like a leader."
Jordan Groeneveld lost his life in a tragic drowning.
"But due to our committee and community support we have been able to keep his memory alive," Bray.
