Rudolph Mosca

SAULT STE. MARIE - Rudolph D. Mosca, 86, of Sault Ste. Marie and formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born on May 25, 1927, in Iron Mountain.

Rudy enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and BPOE 552.

Rudy was a teacher; he started his teaching career in Cedarville from 1951 to 1952, and then taught in Daggett from 1952 to 1956. He began working at Sault Area Public Schools in 1956 and retired from there in 1986. Rudy taught mostly junior high science and driver education. He also coached football.

Rudy graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1945. He served his country in the military in World War II and the Army of Occupation in Germany from 1945 to 1946, as an MP. Rudy received a bachelor of arts degree from Northern Michigan University in 1951 and a master of arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1958, both in education.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy M. Mosca (Boyle), whom he married Nov. 7, 1953 in Marquette; son, James (Kimberly) of Sault Ste. Marie; daughters, Nancy (LaMart) Hightower of Grand Rapids, Susan Mosca of Sault Ste. Marie, Audrey (Rick) Kruid of Holland, Judith (Gary) Klop of Sault Ste. Marie, Anna (Anthony) Mauris of Sault Ste. Marie, and Katherine (Norbert) Strandberg of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, William and Elizabeth Hightower, Robert and Sarah Uldricks, Mikel (Alexandra) and Ben Kruid, Rudolph and Ashley Mosca, Adrue (Brittany) Klop, Cynthia (Nathan) Kaczmarek, and Charles Mauris; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Andy and Ryder Klop, Alexandria Hicks, and Natalie Kruid; other family members and friends: sister-in-law, Rosemary Mosca; good friends, Charles and Helga Flower; in-laws, Kathy (Danny) Pompo of Marquette, Ada (Les) Ruohomaki of Gladstone, Tom (Kate) Boyle of Mesa, Ariz., Douglas Boyle of Marquette, and Judy Boyle; and several nieces and nephews.

Rudy was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Asunta "Ash" (Fontana) Mosca; a brother, Louis Mosca of Iron Mountain; and a sister, Marie Smith of Turlock, Calif.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 113 Maple St. in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Holy Name of Mary Pro-Cathedral, 320 E. Portage Ave., Sault Ste. Marie, with Father Sebastian Kavumkal as celebrant.

Final resting place will be Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to either Hospice House of the EUP or St. Mary Catholic Church would be appreciated.
