HOUGHTON - A six-year-old boy was found safe after a five-hour search by authorities on Wednesday.
The Houghton County Sheriff's Department responded to a residence on Township Park Road in Schoolcraft Township at 12:40 p.m for a report of a missing six-year-old boy. The boy apparently walked away form family in an open field and wooded area while berry picking.
After nearly five hours of an intensive ground and air search, the boy was spotted on a logging trail nearly four miles from the residence by a DNR plane.
Search and rescue units responded to GPS coordinates and located the boy unharmed with only a few bug bites.
The sheriff's department was assisted by Michigan State Police troopers along with their K-9 unit. Also assisting were Superior Search and Rescue, Ahmeek Search and Rescue, Bootjack Search and Rescue, DNR Air Patrol, and the Calumet Township Fire Department.
Numerous friends an family members also assisted in the search.
