IM minor ousts Kingsford to reach Little League district

IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain North filled out the District 10 minor (age 9-10) baseball bracket Friday at Larry Barkle Eastside Field.

Iron Mountain, powered by a 10-run fifth inning, trimmed Kingsford 13-2 in the elimination bracket game.

Blake Julian tripled and singled in North's big fifth inning. Michael Savarin, Ian Anderson, Gavin Goulette and Joey Dumais also contributed hits.

North winning pitcher Jurgen Kleiman, who struck out six, helped his cause with a single.

Kingsford's Carter Kreski collected a pair of singles while Nolan LaVarnway and Hunter Bilgreen had one each.

District tournament, with a berth in the state tournament at stake, begins Wednesday at Barkle Field. Iron Mountain and Escanaba, both with one loss, clash at 5 p.m. The second contest Wednesday pits unbeaten Norway and Tri-County at 7 p.m.
