KINGSFORD - What a perfect day for a picnic at Cowboy Lake as Golden K members and friends gathered at the Pavilion on July 7. It was a wonderful crowd enjoying the sun and visiting with one another in their lawn chairs.

The Golden?K Club recently gathered for a picnic at Cowboy Lake in?Kingsford. Pictured from left, are caterer for the picnic, Phil Zoellner; Bob Rigoni, GK picnic chairman and Mary Jane Nelson, July Golden K chairperson.

GK July Chairperson Mary Jane Nelson offered the prayer and Thought for the Day.

Picnic chairman Bob Rigoni introduced his daughter and three grandchildren whose birthdays (twins) were the day before and his grandson's birthday was the day of the picnic. The Golden Krs are always happy to sing the Welcome song for guests especially on the day of their birthday so they can sing Happy Birthday too. Happy Birthday was also sung for Marge Simbob and Happy Anniversary was sung for Doug and Iris Machus and Kirk and Carol Olson.

An impromptu program of GK talent brought smiles on faces, with telling of jokes, happy well wishes, and accapella group singing led by Lois Outcelt.

Thanks to Al Calcari for bringing his home speaker system so we could hear almost everything that was said.

Happy Dollars were collected from those who wanted to say something happy. Mary Jane was happy to be with her mother, Lorraine Lough, to celebrate her 100th birthday in Gladstone on July 6.

Hank London (90+) was happy to be the oldest GKr present. We always sing "Down by the Riverside" when Hank is with us so he can sing " Way Way Down" in his low bass voice.

Margaret Trudell expressed thanks to all the Golden Throats who came out to sing at the Gazebo for the Northwoods Garden Club "Strawberry Social" last Sunday. Thanks also to Alyce Derwinski who accompanied the group on the Keyboard supplied by GK members Don and Kay Williamson. Also thanks to Bill Trudell who assisted with setting up their sound system.

The catered picnic lunch was prepared and served by Phil Zoellner Catering.

The Golden Throats will be singing at Freeman's on July 17 at 2 p.m.

The next meeting of the Golden K Club is Monday, July 15, at the Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Ave. There is always pre-meeting singing of oldies, with the meeting and program beginning at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Visitors, guests, and new members are always welcome.

The GK board of directors will meet after the meeting on July 15.
