Councils, school boards meet this week

The Iron Mountain City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the council room of the city hall building, 501 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain.

A public hearing will be held concerning the sign ordinance as well as for the transfer of property - a portion of vacated Woodward Avenue to Eagle Tool.

Old business includes the adoption of the sign ordinance, land transfer to Eagle Tool and bid opening for 2013 paving.

Under new business, the council will approve an agreement for septic at City Park with Morin Excavating, an agreement with Lefebvre Holdings LLC for the bathrooms at City Park, solicit bids for the Blaine Street storm sewer and a resolution recognizing Iron Mountain Fire Department engineer Ted Valeski.

The Kingsford City Council will meet today at 6:30 p .m. in the council room, located upstairs of the city hall building, 305 S. Carpenter Ave. in Kingsford.

On the agenda, the council will hear about a vacancy being declared in the Public Safety Department and a lease agreement with Kingsford Natural Foods.

The Breitung Township Schools Board of Education will meet today at 7 p.m. in the board room of the administration building, 2000 Pyle Drive in Kingsford.

Agenda items include second reading of the tuition income policy, approval of legal counsel, designate depositories for school funds and approve the 2013-14 schedule of board meetings.

The Iron Mountain School District Board of Education will meet today at 6 p.m. in the Iron Mountain High School library, located on B floor.

The board will act on relocating the middle school, approve a resolution, approve bond awards, approve music bid awards, accept resignations, approve a retirement and approve hires and termination of employment.

The Norway City Council will meet today at 7 p.m. in the council room of the city hall building, 915 Main St. in Norway.

Public hearings are planned on abandoning and accepting the right-of-way for the intersection of U.S. 2 and 9th Avenue and U.S. 2 road diet - from four lanes to three lanes conversion.

Action items include approval of the lane conversion on U.S. 2, resolution to abandon and decertify the right-of-way at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 9th Avenue, resolution to accept an certify right-of-way at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 9th Avenue, Oak Crest Golf Course golf cart purchase request, substation standby transformer for electric department, generator study and substation batteries for the Sturgeon Falls Hydroelectric, substation time stamp relay for the electric department, and personnel contract for the city assessor.
