Arnold Book

IRON RIVER - Arnold A. Book, 88, of Iron River, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.

Arnold was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Bates Township, the son of the late Charles and Toini (Potola) Book. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the class of 1942. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Arnold married the former Delores Garavet on March 6, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stambaugh, where they are currently members.

The couple started life together at Sunset Lake, returning there in 1987 after retirement from CCI in Ishpeming, where he was employed as a welder with Local 4950. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year.

An avid outdoorsman, Arnold enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, cutting firewood and reading. He also built two homes and loved living at Sunset Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; sons, Charlie (Donna) Book of Lenoir City, Tenn., Bruce (Judy) Book of Ishpeming and Niles Book of Negaunee; daughter, Gail Johnson of Marquette; grandchildren, Stephanie Book, Thomas Book, Stacy Lewis, Ashley Book and Adam Book; and great-grandchildren, Trent Lewis and Olivia Book.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Book; sisters, Anita Sundling, Irene Halvas and Elsie Tarnowski; and son-in-law, Robert Johnson.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Lake Park in Bates Township.
