Carollo leads Big Ten football crackdown on head hits

Big Ten football officials, led by coordinator Bill Carollo, will not hesitate to eject players from games who make hits above the shoulders.

That contact last year drew a 15-yard penalty but the player could stay in the game.

"We have to change behavior," Carollo, son of 1938 Iron Mountain grad Aldo Carollo, said at this week's football officials summit in Chicago. "Otherwise, we won't have a game."

Tom Dienhart, writing for BTN.com, called Carollo "one of the most respected and revered officiating figures in the nation."

Carollo, a former NFL official with Super Bowl experience, was a regular at the Iron Mountain community fund-raiser hosted by Tom Izzo and Steve Mariucci
