IRON MOUNTAIN - Eight four-man teams braved the unseasonably cool temperatures and damp conditions to compete in the Dickinson Area Bocce Association's 2013 "Chi Chi" Pozza U.P. Open Bocce Championship.
Summers Lumber - Steve, Chris and Cole Cavalieri plus 91-year-old Jim Pericolosi - posted an unbeaten mark to win the title.
Dude's Delivery (Gary Mainville, Eddy Pilot, Jim Snowdon and Mike Constantini) claimed second place; Tony Fittante Sales (Bruce Rivard, Jason Ghiotto, Mike Kmiecik and Steve Pomeroy), third, and Woodlands Motel (Dan Kuder, Al Spigarelli, John Gaudette, Terry Calvi), fourth.
Summers Lumber — Steve Cavalieri (from left), Cole Cavalieri, Jim Pericolosi and Chris Cavalieri — captured the Dickinson Area Bocce Association’s “Chi Chi” Pozza Memorial U.P. Tournament at City Park’s Ray Mariucci Bocce Complex.
An eight-team round robin format was selected for this year's tournament so everyone would play seven games and all teams played in even rounds to minimize down time between games.
"The day of competition at City Park's Ray Mariucci Bocce Complex began with a heartwarming letter from Jeanette Pozza of good luck wishes and appreciation for renaming the tournament after her late husband Henry (Chi Chi)," DABA spokesman John Gaudette said.
