Thomas "Stan" Hicks

KINGSFORD - Thomas "Stan" Hicks, 91, of Kingsford, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Iron County Medical Facility in Crystal Falls. He was born on Sept. 17, 1921, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Stanley and Lillian (Pollard) Hicks, and has been a lifelong resident of this area. Stan was an honorably discharged Army veteran and served at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. After returning from the war, he married Winifred Whitford on Oct. 12, 1946, in Ironwood. Stan worked as a nurse's aide at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain, retiring after 37 years with the V.A. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Stan loved the woods. His greatest enjoyment came from hunting, going to camp and tending his garden. He was also an avid fan of Iron Mountain Mountaineer sports, the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his wife, Winifred; children, Kathy (Robert) Trulock of Kingsford, Roy (Jeann) Hicks of Hancock and Gary Hicks of Kingsford; brothers, Merlin Hicks of Kingsford and Gordon (Lindes) Hicks of Kingsford; sisters, Betty Forcey of Iron Mountain, Ethel Lidbeck of Powers and Carol (Tom) Bates of Kingsford; grandchildren, Mark (Becky) Trulock of Breitung Township, Kim (Mike) Phillips of Niagara, Wis., Shane (Kerstin) Trulock of Kingsford, Clint Trulock of Kingsford, Jennifer Hicks of Niagara, Michele (Steve) LaCourt of Hancock, Tom (Tonya) Hicks of Painesdale, Mich., and Allen Hicks of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Rev. Walter Reichle will officiate.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

In Lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
