This year they found themselves back on the banks of the mighty Mississippi at the LaCrosse Center. The worship and devotional services included special music by some of the area's finest choirs and musicians.
At the convention the women joined more than 1,700 others including members from more than 880 Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) congregations. They meet yearly at this international convention for mission support, spiritual renewal, inspiration and fellowship.
The convention was held June 27-30, and had the theme "Like a Tree Planted by Streams of Water." Attendees were provided opportunities to meet missionaries and hear first-hand about work being done in Russia, Mexico, Canada, Nepal, and home missions in the U.S. to name a few. Other highlights of the convention included Bible studies, the presentation of more than $128,500 to WELS Home and World Mission projects and a variety of mission displays.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the organization, the women were treated to a special LWMS historical museum and a banquet followed by an original Saturday evening skit. The group also welcomes more than 400 first time attendees.
The 51st annual LWMS Convention will be held in Dallas June 26-29, hosted by the Red River Circuit. The theme is "You Will Be My Witnesses."
