IRON MOUNTAIN - For the third time this year, the local organization, 100-plus Women Who Care in Dickinson County, has dramatically impacted the bottom line of a local non-profit organization.

At their August meeting, they selected Friends of the Braumart to receive its extraordinary donation of $19,000.

Friends of the Braumart have as its mission the purchase, restoration, and renovation of the historic Braumart Theater in downtown Iron Mountain. This building was originally constructed in 1923-1924.

Organized in 2007, this non-profit group has more than 350 members from 10 states supporting its goal of developing this historic theater into a regional cultural arts center as well as a multi-use community gathering space.

Their vision is to provide a venue that showcases and supports all art forms. By collaborating with artists, schools, performance groups, and cultural organizations, their commitment is to provide our community with unique entertainment and educational experiences in the visual and performing arts.

While dedicated to this goal, Friends of the Braumart also see this as a means to foster economic development in the area and to enhance historic preservation in Iron Mountain's downtown.

"We continue to be inspired by the outpouring of support from the women in the Dickinson County area. This truly reflects the heart and values of this wonderful community," said a spokesperson for the steering committee.

With individual and team members growing with each meeting, 100-plus Women in Dickinson County is close to reaching a staggering 400 women membership mark.

The next meeting for 100-plus Women Who Care is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov.12, at Pine Grove Country Club, at which time another 501(c)(3) charity/organization will be selected.
