Trooper injured in Iron River incident

IRON MOUNTAIN - A Michigan State Police trooper was injured early this morning while responding to a complaint in the city of Iron River.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m.

Sgt. David Stuck of the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain post said that troopers were called to a complaint of malicious destruction of property in downtown Iron River.

The suspect in the matter fled from troopers on foot and ran through several yards.

Sgt. Stuck said that troopers eventually caught the suspect, but both the suspect and a trooper sustained injuries. They sought treatment at Northstar Health System.

Assisting at the scene was the Iron County Sheriff's Department.

IRON MOUNTAIN - More information has been released about an incident in Iron River in which a Michigan State Police trooper was injured.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. Friday on Genesee Street.

A trooper responded to a suspicious situation and discovered a large front window of a business had been broken. The trooper located a blood trail leading away from the scene and tracked the suspect to a residence a few blocks away.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Iron River man, fled on foot at the sight of the trooper.

While pursuing the suspect, the trooper fell and was injured. He was eventually able to apprehend the suspect.

Both the suspect and the trooper were treated at Northstar Health System for injuries: the trooper for injuries sustained in the fall and the suspect for injuries sustained while breaking the window.

The suspect is being lodged in the Iron County Jail pending arraignment.
