MARINETTE, Wis. - A Crivitz, Wis. man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend at a Wausaukee, Wis. gas station has been sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Richard B. Heyer, 56, was sentenced Thursday by Judge David G. Miron in Marinette County Court.

He had previously pleaded no contest to one felony count of first degree intentional homicide. An additional felony count of felon in possession of a firearm was dismissed but read in for sentencing purposes.

In Wisconsin, first degree intentional homicide carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

The charge against Heyer stems from an Aug. 26, 2012 incident.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reported that deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the Citgo gas station in Wausaukee.

They discovered the body of 51-year-old Ann M. Schueller of Wausaukee behind the counter. Heyer was located outside the building with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Sauve said that initial investigation indicated the Heyer and Schueller previously lived together and had a history of domestic violence.
