Carole Smart

QUINNESEC - Carole M. Smart, 77, of Quinnesec, in the presence of her family and loved ones, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Carole was born on Dec. 21,1935, in Kingsford, and was the eighth of nine children born to Ragnhild and Arvid Hansen. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1954, and worked a short time at the Red Owl Store in Iron Mountain. She married Richard Smart of Randville in 1963 and had two sons, Cory Smart of Merriman and Bradley (Kristy) Smart of Iron Mountain. Carole and Richard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year in April.

Carole was a gifted vocalist with a rich alto voice. She began singing at an early age and loved music all of her life. She was known for her great sense of humor and her gift of encouragement to others. She served the Lord with joy in many ways. She sang as a soloist in choirs, special musical programs, weddings, and funerals. Her talent was well-known in the church community. She was also involved in church outreach ministries. In her later years she volunteered at Hyland Nursing Home and ManorCare Health Services.

She loved her family and looked forward to family picnics, get-togethers, and Christmas parties. Carole attended First Baptist Church of Norway and Grace Church of Kingsford.

Carole is survived by her husband, Richard Smart of Quinnesec; sons, Cory Smart of Merriman and Bradley (Kristy) Smart of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Geoff Smart, David Smart, Laura Smart, Kathryn Smart, Russell Smart and Ellie Smart; sisters, Lillie (Darwin) Wilson and Donna (Jerry) Kriegl of Quinnesec; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ragnhild and Arvid Hansen, along with four sisters and two brothers, Randi Schmitt, Sigrid Raymond, Anna Hansen, Ruth Trask, Roy Hansen, and Morris Hansen.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Norway.

The funeral service will follow Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the church. Rev. Andrew Filizetti will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
