Driving through Norway many times this past week as U.S. 2 was being repaved, I noticed with pleasure that while there were only two lanes open to traffic, the flow was smooth no matter what time of day or evening I was on the road.
Better yet, speeds were at or slightly below posted limits. A few times cars wishing to turn left caused others to slow a bit, but had there been a turning lane, that would have been minimized.
I realized that what was taking place was a close approximation of the "Road Diet" plan the D.O.T. proposed for Norway, and it was working well.
How sad that the City Council rejected the plan just weeks earlier, based on perceived notions of what would occur from angry spokespeople who really did not have any experience with the plan, just fear of change.
Another missed opportunity to better an already fine city.
