DUNBAR, Wis. - Northland International University played four matches in three days on a recent trip through Milwaukee and Chicago.
Lady Pioneers went 3-1 and accomplished another numerical record in the process.
Road trip began Thursday at Mount Mary College where NIU triumphed 25-14, 25-19, 25-10.
On Friday, the team drove to Moody in Chicago for the Archer Invite. This tourney would include some Midwest Regional opponents and the matches would factor into season-ending seeding.
In the second match, NIU outlasted host Moody with tough serving and defense.
"I was so proud of the team," Coach Dave Herron said. "They had to fight against an adverse crowd and a good team. My setter (Olivia Smith) played absolutely great and the hitters were fearless."
In the championship, NIU fell to NCCAA power Maranatha 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-20.
"They played the game bigger and faster at the net than our inexperience and ability allowed us to compete at," Herron said. "Any win-loss record is simply an account of the people a coach has had the privilege of spending time with. It is better to impact than impress. I guess time will tell which way mine goes."
NIU travels to Finlandia University on Tuesday before traveling to Lower Michigan for weekend tri-matches at Grace Bible and Kyper College.
