Ruth and her husband James celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26, 2013. Music was Ruth's passion in life. She had a very good and strong soprano voice that needed very little amplification. She was active in the music ministry of the Methodist church in each community she lived in. Her love for music was further developed in Belleville with training by Mary Ellen Henkel of Ann Arbor.

In Norway, her talent was demonstrated as soloist, choir director and praise song leader at Grace United Methodist Church. The Pine Mountain Music Festival was a great source of pleasure; she sang in their annual opera chorus for 14 years, then became area director for three years. The Dickinson Community Chorus was also a part of her music contribution for 10 years. One of her favorite times was singing for the Liturgical Dance Group of the First United Methodist Church of Belleville for many years. Ruth sang musical therapy in many nursing homes for years. She served her community as the director of Western Wayne County United Fund. She later enjoyed directing the Golden-K Chorus in Iron Mountain.

Ruth is the last of her family of 14 children to pass away. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Collette in 1991; and leaves three sons, James E. Jr. (Dawn Elizabeth) Pollard of Belleville, Howard (Dawn Lyn) Pollard of Dearborn, and Paul (Pam) Pollard of Belleville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews, mostly in the Evansville area.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, starting at 9 a.m., with an 11 a.m. service at First United Methodist Church, 417 Charles St., Belleville, Michigan 48111. Pastor Jim Walker will officiate. Luncheon will follow the service with interment of cremains at 3 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery.

Arrangements by David C. Brown Funeral Home, 500 E. Huron River Drive, Belleville.

Donations may be made to Belleville First United Methodist Church and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
