James Lucas

NIAGARA, Wis. - James William Lucas, 89, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1924, in Seneca, Kan., to James and Berneice (Shepard) Lucas. He served in the Army from 1942-1946 in the South Pacific, the Phillipines, and during the Occupation of Japan.

James married Joyce Douty in 1947 in Milwaukee. They divoriced in 1991.

In 1998, James married Marcella Sanders Lyman.

Jim was an over-the-road truck driver all his working-life and will take his last ride in his own Peterbilt - now owned and operated by his grandson, Derek Schlabowske - as was his wish.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marcella; five children, Beverly Schlabowske, Patricia Greene, James M. Lucas, Thomas (Terry) Lucas, and Carolyn McGuire; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Jeff (Linda) Lyman, Paula (Glenn) Berkhahn, Keith (Anita) Lyman, and David (JoAnn) Lyman; eight step-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roy, Jack and Gordon (Cheryl) Lucas; three sisters, Ruth (Louie) Parker, Jeanne Miller, and Nita (Roger) Sobers; many nieces, nephews and in-laws; and his beloved dog, Cindy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elaine Rockwell (his twin), and Norma Lucas; four brothers, Frank Parge, Dale, Douglas and Bill Lucas; and one granddaughter, Robin McGuire.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

The Hansen, Onion, Martell Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
