Florence locks up 2nd in NLC

CRANDON, Wis. - Florence clinched second place in the Northern Lakes Conference volleyball standings on Tuesday.

Coach Trudy Rochon's Bobcats improved to a 12-2 record with regular season-ending wins over Crandon 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) and Elcho 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 22-25, 25-14). Laona-Wabeno (13-1) won the league title.

Emma Baumgart's 25 kills and Aly Young's 20 kills with 20 assists paced Florence. Kristen Schroeder and Young notched six aces apiece.

The Bobcats gained the top seed and first-round regional bye in the WIAA Division 4 tournament. They will host the winner of Three Lakes-Wausaukee to open the tourney Thursday, Oct. 24.
