Sophomore awarded top honor

IRON MOUNTAIN - Katie Brule of Iron Mountain has earned top honors in Upper Peninsula Division 2 girls tennis for 2013.

Brule, a sophomore who captured the U.P. No. 1 singles crown, claimed Player of the Year laurels.

Negaunee's Allison Carlson, who capped her unbeaten junior season with Mid-Peninsula Conference and U.P. girls tennis titles, has been named the U.P. Division 1 Player of the Year.

Girls tennis coaches made All-U.P. selections. Mark Shanks, stepping down after guiding Kingsford to the U.P. crown, was named Division 1 Coach of the Year. Westwood's Chris Jackson was the Division 2 recipient.

Carlson also earned all-state honors along with Kingsford's Hannah Tresedder and the doubles team of Anna Shanks-Kate Lamy, and Escanaba doubles Olivia Berquist-Shelby Gregoire.
