ESCANABA - A New Year's Eve fireworks display is planned for Escanaba courtesy of the Esky150 Committee. The Escanaba City Council approved the wintertime event at its regular meeting Thursday.
A total of 191 fireworks will be lighted beginning at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, giving all ages a chance to view the display on New Year's Eve, said City Manager Jim O'Toole. The light show will take place at the municipal dock.
The Esky150 Committee, which organized this year's 150th anniversary celebration in Escanaba, is providing $5,000 for the fireworks.
During Thursday's meeting, council approved hiring Wolverine Fireworks Display Inc. to furnish and supply all labor, equipment, materials and insurance for the New Year's Eve fireworks display.
Wolverine Fireworks is the same company which presented Escanaba's Fourth of July fireworks and the Esky150 fireworks this summer.
