KINGSFORD - Elinor Schlosser Jordan, 95, of Kingsford and formerly of Grand Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.

Elinor was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 21, 1918, the second daughter of Ralph and Caroline (Haskell) Brown. She grew up on Long Island and graduated from Scudder School of Business in New York City. She worked as an executive secretary for Standard Oil Co. in New York City and Kaiser-Hughes Aircraft in California.

Elinor joined the American Red Cross Military Welfare Service during World War II and was stationed in England as a "doughnut Dollie" working on a clubmobile providing doughnuts, coffee and news from home to the American GIs. While there, on a hospital sunshine visit she met patient First Lieutenant Kenneth E. Schlosser. They married in 1946 and had three children: a daughter, Roberta "Bobbie" Santoni of Iron Mountain, and two sons, David of Grand Junction, Colo., and Paul, previously of Grand Rapids.

Elinor married William Jordan in 1975. In Grand Rapids, her home for 63 years, Elinor worked for Union Bank and Trust Co. and Warner, Norcross & Judd law firm. She also owned and operated her own greenhouse and flower/plant business.

Elinor was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church In Grand Rapids, R.S.V.P. and was a past president of ABWA. She participated in her church's Christ Care group and sang and acted with the Curtain Time Players and a seniors' improv troupe well into her 80's. Elinor held the title of Master Gardener and her knowledge and passion for creating beautiful flower gardens inspired many. Reading, writing her memoirs, traveling, playing cards and completing the Sunday crossword puzzles kept her mind sharp. She loved her family and friends and will be remembered for her pretty smile, her generous spirit, and her joie de vivre.

Elinor was also very proud of the fact that a maternal ancestor, General John Glover of Marblehead, Mass., fought with George Washington in the American Revolution.

She is survived by her children, David and Roberta; six grandchildren, Mario (Brynn) Santoni of Kingsford, Anthony (Annie) Santoni of Iron Mountain, Ami (Michael) Schlosser-Engelhart of Custer, S.D., Alexa Schlosser of Chicago, and Sean and David Gill; 10 great-grandchildren, three being Gino and Vera Santoni of Kingsford, and Marco Santoni of Iron Mountain; and cousins, nephews and nieces.
