KINGSFORD - Kingsford High School senior Emma Voss, has been selected by her classmates as this year's National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Representative for the Onagomingkway Chapter.
Emma is the daughter of Barry and Yvonne Voss of Norway.
The DAR Good Citizenship Award is presented to one student based on the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality), service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others), leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility), and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree.
Emma is in the top 10 percent of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has participated in swimming, cross country, and track. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Drama Club, and SADD and has been a volunteer after school tutor at KHS and currently serves as a tutor at Woodland Elementary School
Outside of school Emma is very active in church activities. She is a Faith Formation teacher, altar server, Extraordinary Minister, Youth Encounter team member, and volunteers at Vacation Bible School. She has also participated in Walk for Life and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
"Emma is an outstanding young lady who has demonstrated a commitment to the total school program at Kingsford High School. She has continually excelled both in the classroom and as a leader among her peers. She is a young lady who shows a great maturity and commitment to success. She sets goals and works hard to achieve her goals," noted KHS Principal Lyle Smithson. "She is highly respected by both her peers and the teaching staff at Kingsford High School. We are extremely proud to have Emma selected as our 2013-2014 DAR good citizenship award winner."
After graduation, Emma plans to study elementary education at Cardinal Stritch University or Franciscan University.
