BAY CITY - Kingsford's Nelson Wienke has been named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) second team for a second year.
GLIAC released its all-league football teams for 2013 Wednesday. Wienke was joined by Michigan Tech teammates Brandon Cowie and Frank Vruwink on the second team. Six others, including linebacker Taylor Ziolkowski of Goodman, were named honorable mention.
Wienke recorded 41 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The 6-3, 265-pound junior defensive end had 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception to his credit, and was a key to the Huskies boasting the league's top-ranked pass defense.
Cowie, a freshman wide receiver, posted 58 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns in his first year at the position since moving over from quarterback as a redshirt.
Vruwink (6-3, 275) started all 10 games at left tackle. The sophomore was a big factor in Tech averaging 458 yards of total offense per game and leading the GLIAC in time of possession.
Michigan Tech football finished its 2013 season with a 6-4 record.
