L'ANSE - A 19-year-old woman from South Range died as a result of injuries she sustained in an automobile accident Tuesday.

The Baraga County Sheriff's Office reported the accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 41, three miles south of L'Anse.

Deputies said a vehicle driven by Brittany Nicholas of South Range was north bound on U.S. 41 and lost control on the icy road striking a southbound vehicle driven by 64-year-old Diane Risku of Watton.

Her death was confirmed Thursday by the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Sheriff's Deputies were assisted at the scene by Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police and the L'Anse Fire and Rescue's Jaws of Life.
