CRYSTAL FALLS - Lexi Gussert scored her 2,000th career point and Forest Park spilled Kingsford 71-41 in non-conference girls basketball Friday at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.

Gussert, who led the Trojans (4-0) with 30 points, reached the milestone early in the fourth quarter. The four-year starter shows 2,002 career points.

"They're just good," Flivver coach Mike Cross said of the unbeaten Trojans. "Lexi is so good at finding the open player. You have to account for everybody and her."

Forest Park rolled 23-8 in the first quarter en route to a 38-15 halftime cushion.

"We pressed full court to wear them down," said Forest Park Coach Jeff Syrjanen, planning to match Kingsford's aggressiveness. "We rotate a little deeper than they do. We got the better of them in the first and second quarter.

"Kingsford is well coached and we know they're going to play tough defense. We wanted to get out of the blocks quick."

Gussert added 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Maria Stankewicz had 11 points.

Kendra Campbell's four steals provided a spark.

"Kendra Campbell played a great first quarter," Syrjanen said. "Her steals helped us get those 23 points. She was very aggressive and did a real nice defensive job."

Syrjanen also cited freshman Abby Nylund for coming off the bench and delivering five first-quarter points.

Maria Wiltzius' 17 points led Kingsford (2-2).

"Maria played real well and did a lot of nice things for us," Cross said.

Forest Park won the jayvee game.

On Tuesday, Forest Park takes a 3-0 Skyline Conference mark against Mid Peninsula and Kingsford opens Great Northern Conference play at Gladstone.
