The Daily News

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - William Clarence Hansley, of Breitung Township, born July 26, 1928, in Escanaba, went home to heaven on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013.

Born to Mary and Clarence Hansley, Bill was raised with his brother Bob. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph Michigan. He attended Western Michigan University until he was called to serve in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Michigan and enrolled at Michigan Technological University and graduated with honors with a degree in mechanical engineering. It was during his time at MTU that Bill met his "sweetheart" Marilyn Carol Nicholson. They were married March 3, 1956, and settled in Iron Mountain where he began his career at Lake Shore Inc - now Oldenburg Group Inc. Bill worked there for 58 years, the last 15 years as a consultant. He loved his work and enjoyed the men and women he worked with. Bill and Marilyn loved and raised three children, supporting them and enjoying times camping, vacationing, summers at the cottage, weekends at camp and family times of any kind. First to lend a helping hand as advisor, supporter, mentor, nurturer and especially a friend; our family will treasure all the wonderful memories of our husband, father and grandfather. A friend to all and a true gentleman in every way, we as his family can only strive to live as he did with kindness, dignity and honor.

Bill served his community in many capacities, representing Lake Shore Inc. on the Dickinson County Area Chamber of Commerce board, serving on numerous boards at the First United Methodist Church and the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member and president of the Breitung Township School Board, was a scout master for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. He taught Sunday school and worked alongside Marilyn in her community work. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Golden K, Elks Lodge, Pine Grove Country Club and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
