IRON RIVER - Ethel Joyce Turbessi, 92, of Iron River, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at her home.
Ethel was born May 14, 1921, in Stambaugh. She married the love of her life, Primo Turbessi Oct. 4, 1939, in Gastra.
Ethel was a wonderful compassionate mother and advocate for her three boys, Richard, Ronald and David. They were her reason for living. Primo and Ethel were instrumental in the opening of a number of group homes and programs for the mentally ill and handicapped in the Upper Peninsula. She worked with many influential people, including Governor Romney. She never turned her back on people in need.
Ethel's personality was so vibrant and funshe had a quick wit and enjoyed life and friends. Her little antique shop was known to be the best north of Chicago. She will surely be missed and her memory will live on for a long time.
Ethel lived by the prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, Faith;
Where there is despair, Hope;
Where there is darkness, Light;
Where there is sadness, Joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Primo.
Ethel will be laid to rest at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd, Nicolet Memorial Gardens, Green Bay.
Please pay respects to our friend Ethel Turbessi by living the prayer that she lived by!
