Three Kingsford High School grads with All-U.P. credentials contributed to one of the finest seasons in St. Norbert College football history.

Tom Paternoster, Paul Goodreau and David Bergeron played on the undefeated 1946 Green Knights. There was also an Iron Mountain connection, with former Packer John Biolo coaching the line.

Fielding a team for the first time since 1942 (war years), St. Norbert dispatched eight foes. Two - Central State Teachers and Oshkosh State Teachers - were described as "Ineffectual" and "almost helpless."

Paternoster grabbed a pair of touchdown passes in St. Norbert's 39-0 win over Oshkosh.

"As usual the (Coach) Hearden men completely outplayed their opponents in every department," SNC school yearbook reported after beating LaCrosse 20-0.

Those record-breaking Green Knights finished as the school's first unbeaten-untied team. They also received votes in the final Associated Press poll.

St. Norbert College football sports a 420-277-20 record since 1931.

Thanks much to Kingsford historian Art Viens and SNC SID Dan Lukes for tracking dow information ...

West Iron County may be down but it's not out, insists boys basketball coach Dan Schive.

"Don't give up on this basketball team," Schive said. "We will be fun to watch."
