WABENO, Wis. - Florence battled from 12 points behind in the fourth quarter and defeated Laona-Wabeno 51-47 in overtime in Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball Friday.
Connor Beaster led the Bobcats with 19 points and 23 rebounds, while Marshall Kelley contributed 15 points.
"It was a story of two halves," said Florence coach Tom Beck, whose team trailed 35-23 after three quarters. With Beaster and Freddy Noeske both in foul trouble, the Bobcats played a cautious zone defense through much of the game. "At the end of the fourth quarter we kind of unleashed things," Beck said.
After surrendering just two points in the fourth quarter, Florence outscored the Rebels 14-10 in the extra session for a fourth straight win.
"I'm really proud of the effort with a shorthanded squad," Beck said. "Marshall Kelley had a heckuva game, hitting a couple of threes to keep us in it. Noeske (eight points, five steals) had another nice floor game."
Florence played without two starters, Tyler Valine (illness) and Lukas Gareau.
"They really played together, a nice team win," Beck said.
The Rebels won the jayvee contest.
The Bobcats (7-11, 6-7) travel to Forest Park for a non-conference game Monday.
