I read an article in your local newspaper on how the Iron Mountain School Board was going to try to raise funds for the school district, but one very important option was not mentioned. Our State Legislature has failed to fund our schools properly since 2010. Our public schools are operating on $290 less per student than they were in the 2010-11 school year.
How do we change this? We must elect legislators who support Michigan's public schools.
In 2010, 1 percent of Michigan's public schools were in deficit, while in 2012, 10 percent are in a deficit situation.
There is an organization called "ALEC" that has a goal of destroying public schools, one step at a time.
We have legislators and a governor in Michigan who are in tune
with this group. The bottom line is we must change what is happening in Lansing.
Remember this in November if you want to keep your local schools.
