NEGAUNEE - A 79-year-old Republic man was found after being reported missing on Sunday.
According to the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, Benjamin Suomi left his home at 689 Second St. sometime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Suomi's wife contacted police at 11 a.m. She told troopers that Suomi was afflicted by the onset of dementia, and that she believed he was dressed for conditions but did not have any identification or his cell phone.
Sgt. Eric Bannan said Suomi was located at 4:30 p.m., as police were in the process of airing a story with local media. A passerby saw Suomi standing outside of his vehicle on an unplowed section of River Road in Republic.
Suomi's 1999 Ford Explorer had become stuck and then got a flat tire, leaving him stranded. Troopers responded to the scene and found Suomi in good health, Bannan said.
Troopers transported Suomi back to his residence and released him to the care of his wife.
Michigan State Police Negaunee Post was assisted by Marquette County Search and Rescue.
