NEGAUNEE - Kingsford claimed three of four singles matches and played to a 4-4 draw with Negaunee in high school boys tennis Monday.
The Flivvers dropped three of the five three-set matched played.
"They could have went either way," Flivver coach Mark Shanks said. "We're extremely close (to Negaunee) with the same young singles lineups. They have a few more seniors."

Kingsford’s Adam Szabo returns the ball to his Negaunee opponent Monday at the Negaunee High School tennis courts.
Kingsford triumphed in singles with No. 1 Adam Szabo, No. 3 Chris Roell and No. 4 Alek Shanks.
Szabo lost the first set in a tiebreaker but took the next two against Parker Bowman, a No. 4 doubles player last season. Flivver No. 2 singles Brady Hicks fell to Ryan Syrjala 6-0, 6-7 (7), 6-3.
"Brady played a great match," Flivver coach said.
Weather conditions, poor for the Negaunee match, may not allow the Flivvers and Maroons to meet today.
"This is my most brutal start in 27 years of coaching," Shanks said of the weather. "This will be a great battle with Negaunee when we get some good weather."
