KINGSFORD - The Kingsford Flivvers needed better times with the track & field regionals around the corner.
The boys responded well Thursday in a triangular meet with Escanaba and Iron Mountain. Coach Doug Roberts' Flivvers tallied 113.5 points to spill the Eskymos, 45, and Mountaineers, 16.5.
"We improved all of our sprint times which is big," Roberts said. "The relay times were really good. That's going to help us in the regionals (next week at Negaunee)."

Kingsford’s Jack Glodowski cleared 5-feet-8 to win the high jump Thursday at Flivver Field.
Amber Larson prepares to take the baton from Hannah Allen in the 1600-meter relay Thursday at Flivver Field.
Earlier this week, Kingsford turned back three other foes.
"The other night our times were not that great," Roberts said. Tonight they were better That will definitely help us for seeding in the regionals."
Regional qualifying times must be submitted by Monday. Kingsford's next meet is the Flivver Invitational on Tuesday. Lane assignments make a big difference, Roberts stated.
For example, Roberts noted sprinter Cole Tengesdahl, who won the 100 and 200-meter dashes along with running in the 400 and 800 relays.
"You have long guys like a Tengesdahl and you want to keep them in the outer lanes or towards the middle," Roberts said. "You get stuck in lane one, it's just tough to run. It's big-time important."
Tyler Roberts took the 400-meter dash along with relay success in the 800 and 1600 relays.
The Flivver coach also cited freshman Guy Barrows for a "good throw (40-1) in the shot put" to take that event; discus winner Jonah Carlson "has been pretty consistent," and pole vaulter Ryan Camp went after the school record, clearing 13-feet for first.
"Ryan just barely missed it (at 13-7)," said Roberts. "He's certainly on his way."
In the girls meet, Escanaba, 121.5, ran past Kingsford, 50.5, and Iron Mountain.
Escanaba captured every event except for three relays (3200, 800, 400) that went to Kingsford.
"Hannah Tresedder had a great leg in that two-mile relay and ran strong throughout the day," Flivver coach Lisa Harry said. "Tori Peterson had a pretty solid meet."
Peterson competed in the 3200 relay, filled in on the 1600 relay and had a "nice mile time (6:11.58)" for second.
The Flivver coach also recognized "big gains" from long jumpers Cassidy Henes (second, 13-2) and freshman Gabby Nordstrom (fourth, 13-1).
Escanaba speedster Lynsey Collins outlegged freshman Raegan Pratt in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
"Raegan was neck and neck with Collins," Harry said.
Coach Rhonda Carey said her Mountaineers had a "learning experience."
"We are continuing to work on improving and it was good experience to go against two tough teams like Kingsford and Escanaba," Carey said. "Alli Cevigney had a notable finish for her very first time running the 800 (third, 2:57). Kate Bugni is continuing to be a solid competitor in the shot and discus.
"We are going to continue to train hard for next week's Kingsford Invite and regionals at home."
