Floriano-Stecker American Legion Post 340 of Hermansville will conduct Memorial Day exercises at 9 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Faithorn and at 11:15 a.m. at the Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville. The Veterans Monument is located at the Meyer Township Cemetery in Hermansville. The Hermansville Legion Post was organized on April 19, 1934, and was named the Leo Floriano American Legion Post 340 after Leo Floriano, who was killed in action in France during World War I. One of the first projects of the Floriano Post was the monument constructed in the Veterans Plot in the cemetery. It is believed the monument was built in the 1930s. It lists the names of Hermansville and Faithorn veterans who served during World War I.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lungerhausen donated the former IXL Hotel and land to the Post in 1980. The building was renovated and the first meeting was held on Sept. 24, 1981.
"In 2012, the Ladies Auxiliary did a beautiful job of landscaping around the premises. It looks very nice," said a Legion spokesperson. "Beautiful comments have been received."
