IRON MOUNTAIN - An Iron Mountain man was arrested Thursday night after leading police officers on a short chase through the city's east side.
The incident occurred at about 10:23 p.m., when officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of East B Street and Park Avenue.
Acting Iron Mountain Police Chief Ed Mattson said that dispatchers had advised that a suspect vehicle had left the scene, but a possible assault victim was observed crawling in the roadway and later crawling into a ditch.
Officers located the suspect vehicle on the 800 block of East B Street and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Mattson said that the suspect vehicle fled the scene and proceeded to travel westbound on East B Street, which is a one-way street going east. The pursuit continued to the intersection of East B Street and Washington Street. At that point, the suspect vehicle lost control while attempting to turn north onto Washington Street.
The suspect vehicle then left the roadway and struck a power pole guide wire.
Mattson said that the driver, a 27-year-old Iron Mountain man, was arrested and lodged in the Dickinson County Jail on requested charges of fleeing and eluding-third degree, operating with a high blood alcohol content, and driving while license suspended.
According to Mattson, the assault victim sustained non life-threatening injuries. Officers are still investigating the incident for possible assault charges against the suspect, he added.
The suspect's name will not be released until after he is arraigned in Dickinson County District Court.
Assisting at the scene of the incident were the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, and the Michigan State Police.
