IRON MOUNTAIN - The 2014 Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon will, for the first time, include a relay event.
Race day is set for Sunday, Sept. 14, and this year participants can sign up to run the same course as traditional racers as part of a three-person team. Four divisions are available: male, female, mixed and corporate.
Race organizers believe that the Corporate Challenge is an important element of the Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon three-person Relay promoting teamwork, a healthy workforce, corporate health and maintaining a work/life balance. The Corporate Challenge is an opportunity for workmates to participate in a social atmosphere outside of the workplace, while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
"We are thrilled to introduce this relay to our already great event," said Lisa Villringer, race director at Iron Mountain Road and Trail Half Marathon. "This will allow more members of our community to join us on race day for 13.1 miles of fun. Girlfriends can challenge one another, men can create a friendly competition, families can share in the joy that running can bring."
The race is endorsed by the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and is a part of the PureMichigan FITness Series. All proceeds benefit local charities.
Nearly 350 runners took part in last year's event, and race organizers expect that number to grow.
