PEMBINE, Wis. - Lila Jean Dal Santo, 79, of Pembine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Bellin Hospital.
She was born on June 2, 1935, in Norway, daughter of John William and Margaret Ruth (Dixon) Smolander.
Lila was united in marriage to Nick on July 24, 1954, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine.
Lila worked a variety of jobs, but her main passion was following, and feeding her children. She attended countless athletic games, of all varieties, made the BEST potato salad, washed lots of jerseys, (even for the entire football team, when her husband was the coach) made a lot of spaghetti, listened to many music concerts and made, still more, potato salad.
She also enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was camping, making firewood, or picking blueberries. She definitely appreciated a "good berry picker," even though few of her kids met the standard.
That love and passion continued on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Grandpa and Grandma always had an endless supply of orange sherbet push-ups in the freezer just for them.
She loved watching them grow and spending time with them, whether, that meant being sure to have their favorite pies ready for camping weekends, or playing with them on the "Big Slide" during "cabining" weekends. (In the Dal Santo Family, "cabining" is a real word.)
Again, many more sporting and music events were enjoyed.
Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma will always be greatly loved and sadly missed.
Lila is survived by her husband, Nick; five children, Michael (Tami) Dal Santo of Sturgeon Bay, Joel (Michelle) Dal Santo of Pembine, Dale (Teresa) Dal Santo of Iron Mountain, Laura (Roger) Moloney of Pembine, and Dennis (Tanya) Dal Santo of Iron Mountain; 16 grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas (Thanh), Stephanie, Christian, Maxwell, Brock (Tina), Derrick (Tracey), Melissa, Colby (Brenda), Anthony, Brady, Marissa, Logan, Dylan, Victoria, and Alexis; nine great-grandchildren, Angelina, Antha, Anna, Daniel, Bailee, Ava, Ian, Eli, and Olivia; two sisters, Margaret Parr and Arlene Smolander; and further survived by five very special kids, Missy, Rachel, Cody, Jamie, and Gabby.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Joseph Orel Dal Santo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday June 16, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine with Father Matt Settle officiating.
Visitation is from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
Interment will be in the Pembine Cemetery.
